Worm fishing on a flood

Rising water, Pwll Dan Capel below the bridge Llanystumdwy.
In general terms, the larger the flood the better. The fish get pushed to the sides and in quiet back eddies in some of the most unexpected places you may get some really good sport!
It takes about 6 hours after heavy rain for a flood to reach Llanystumdwy. Unfortunately floods can run off very quickly due to drainage of moorland up in Cwm Pennant and Cwm Llefrith - a great pity as I can remember 20 years ago a good flood would take 3-4 days to subside. Today we are talking about 12 hours and in the summer months with sudden run off even 6 hours and the river is almost back to normal flow.
If the water covers the large rock in the pictures taken off the bridge in Llanystumdwy - see "State of the water", it is ideal for worm fishing. The edges near the bank, anywhere there are back eddies or the bottom end of the large pools just before the water leaves are worth trying.
