The River Dwyfor Hatchery
Starting again for the 1999 seasons fry
Thanks to the hard work put in by the Environmental Agency water bailiffs and retired ex keeper Emrys we now have 6,000 sea trout fry and 5,000 salmon fry to put back in our river.
This is a general view of the hatchery as you approach from Tyddyn Cethin Farm itself.
We have some very lively good quality sea trout fry this year and they are growing apace. Looking after them involves typically visiting them twice a day to put new food in the mechanical feeders, remove dead fish and any debris.
This tank holds our sea trout fry at the moment until they are regraded in a few weeks time and split between this small tank and the at the moment empty larger third tank.
This holds our salmon fry which are at the moment much smaller than the sea trout fry and the losses are much greater - this is the first time we have grown on salmon fry.
We use mechanical feeders based on a clockwork mechanism - we load the belt above in the morning and this lasts 24 hours.
