Andrew Profit our present Chairman, presenting "The Dwyfor Fairy" to Emrys Owen - the highest accolade the Association awards to members who have contributed significantly to the Club over the years.
Emrys Owen is now retired but has worked as a water bailiff for some 40 years - a life time, with the NRA, now the Environment Agency. He lives in Llanystumdwy and was born nearby, an expert fisherman and has been persuaded to recount some of his experiences over the years here. They are all true! and hopefully there are some more to come soon.
William Jones, Aberkin was night fishing at the mud pool. Suddenly out of the dark a Heron came down and stood for a second or two on his head. Both Mr. Jones and the Heron had a fright as when Mr Jones saw his coat the following morning his back was covered in white Heron droppings.
Jim Parry of Criccieth was night fishing the Mill Pool at Rhydybenllig. He hooked a fish near the opposite bank, he wound the struggling fish in and netted it. To his surprise when he checked the net it contained a rabbit he had hooked in its back.
Robert Thomas of Llanystumdwy was night fishing at Llyn - dan Trap when he hooked a large fish. He played the fish for a while but could not get it in. Mr. Thomas called out to Jack Moss Roberts who was fishing at Cae Criw. Jack came down with his large landing net. The fish was played for several minutes but all efforts to land it failed. Jack told Robert that he would shine his torch to see if they could see the fish. Jack shone his torch and both saw two gleaming eyes staring at them. Mr. Thomas had hooked an otter. When Jack saw it, he ran away leaving poor Robert fast to the otter.
