Fishing flies commonly used on this river

Personally I think it does not matter a great deal what flies you use! - if your new to the river use Teal Blue and Silver, Peter Ross, Dunked or March Brown Silver body and you can't really go wrong! I use Teal Blue and Silver variants almost exclusively, tied on a variety of sizes from size 14 long shank through to size 4. You can certainly try small doubles, be adventurous - there are a lot of new fly tying materials to try, but I'm convinced a lot has to do with CONFIDENCE in what you are doing. You do need to present the fly properly - half the battle - if the fish are 10 feet down and your flies are on the surface and their not very interested, it is really stating the obvious! I often use a braided leaded leader and a very short length of gut (5 foot) with one fly - nothing else - but it means I can get down to the fish reasonably quickly - think about it. If you want long discussions about how to fish for sea trout read the relevant chapters in the two books suggested in Essential Reading! You can read as much as you like I don't think it will help much! I'll say no more - it's far more important to go and relax and enjoy one's fishing!

I will mention 2 techniques that can work very effectively from time to time especially if the fish are active
