"Wil Bach 1"!
Want to know the pattern that I use to catch?! There is no secret, and I am sure that any other pattern works the same - it boils down to confidence in what you are doing and of course the fish in a willing mood!
The pattern is very simple and I coat each stage with superglue - sea trout have surprisingly sharp teeth.
Body: A sparkling lureflash thread three-quarter along a size 8 long shank hook, the remaining quarter - a bright red fluorescent wool
Wing: a squirrel tail dyed dark blue topped with about 6-8 stands of lureflash crystal hair.
And there you have it - very effective on our river on a fairly fast figure of eight retrieve, high water on a sink tip, low water a floater with a sinking braid, only one fly and a very short length of 8 lbs. best quality gut e.g. Maxima.
Best night - 10 fish - 3½lbs., 2½, 2½, 1¾, kept as bag limit, others ranged from 1-2½ lbs - put back. - all within an hour and a half of sunset 11/8/99.
